What’s going on:
Vision Night
Sunday, February 2 | 5pm
Join us in the auditorium for an evening of being with one another as we look to the future of Redemption Church. Come, get a printed copy of our 2024 annual report, and dream with us about where this beautiful community we co-create will go in the years ahead.
Groups | Tables
Leading Jesus centered lives together. Redemption tables provide predictable, ongoing space for connection and belonging. Meeting at regular intervals around a meal, Tables are places where people can know and be known over the long haul. Search for tables here.
Hangouts | Super Bowl Party
Sunday, February 9 | 6–9pm
The Super Bowl feels like a good excuse to hang out and share some food while enjoying overpriced commercials, and awesome people.
Bring your favorite game day food or drink to enjoy and share.
Order of Worship
Gather
We move from individuals to a collection of persons brought together as Christ’s gathered body, His church. We’ll be welcomed together by singing a song.
Listen
We worship a God who speaks. So in our gathering we listen to hear what God would say to us by singing and hearing scripture, and a sermon.
Respond
We respond to what we have heard, acknowledging that our personal response is deeply personal. We’ll pray, confess, sing, and have an opportunity for generosity.
Feast
We are encountered as a community by the God who forgives and makes us whole by the body and blood of Jesus.
Be Sent
We are each sent back out to embody the hope of Jesus to a weary world.
This Week’s Text
Galatians 3:1-18
You foolish Galatians, who has bewitched you, before whose eyes Jesus Christ was publicly portrayed as crucified? This is the only thing I want to find out from you: did you receive the Spirit by works of the Law, or by hearing with faith? Are you so foolish? Having begun by the Spirit, are you now being perfected by the flesh? Did you suffer so many things in vain—if indeed it was in vain? So then, does He who provides you with the Spirit and works miracles among you, do it by works of the Law, or by hearing with faith?
Just as Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness. Therefore, recognize that it is those who are of faith who are sons of Abraham. The Scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, preached the gospel beforehand to Abraham, saying, “All the nations will be blessed in you.” So then, those who are of faith are blessed with Abraham, the believer.
For all who are of works of the Law are under a curse; for it is written: “Cursed is everyone who does not abide by all the things written in the book of the Law, to do them.” Now, that no one is justified by the Law before God is evident; for, “the righteous one will live by faith.” However, the Law is not of faith; on the contrary, “The person who performs them will live by them.” Christ redeemed us from the curse of the Law, having become a curse for us—for it is written: “Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree”— in order that in Christ Jesus the blessing of Abraham would come to the Gentiles, so that we would receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.
Brothers and sisters, I speak in terms of human relations: even though it is only a man’s covenant, yet when it has been ratified, no one sets it aside or adds conditions to it. Now the promises were spoken to Abraham and to his seed. He does not say, “And to seeds,” as one would in referring to many, but rather as in referring to one, “And to your seed,” that is, Christ. What I am saying is this: the Law, which came 430 years later, does not invalidate a covenant previously ratified by God, so as to nullify the promise. For if the inheritance is based on law, it is no longer based on a promise; but God has granted it to Abraham by means of a promise.
Give
Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God.
– Hebrews 13:16
We respond to God’s generosity by being generous. If you already regularly give, thank you. If today is your first opportunity to support our community and its mission financially, thank you.
God of mercy you have called us by your grace to be a part of this community. Grant us a sense of belonging, grant us love for one another, grant us the grace to feel responsible for this community and its ministry. Help us to live generous, open handed lives entrusting ourselves to you wholly, even with our finances.
Let us with gladness present the offerings of our life and labor to you Lord. Help us ever be happy givers.
In Jesus name,
Amen
