Forgiveness. Love. Community. The presence of God. This is the New Covenant, which Jeremiah announced 600 years in advance, and which we’re invited into right now. Who’s in?
Main Text: Jeremiah 31:31-34
This Sunday was Pentecost. It’s seven weeks after Easter. It’s the day when the Holy Spirit first came down to dwell within Jesus’ followers (in Acts 2). It’s the day the church began.
We’re finishing our Jeremiah series & celebrating Pentecost by looking back to one of Jeremiah’s most famous prophecies, on the New Covenant.
This New Covenant is what Jesus inaugurated (see, for example, Luke 22:14-20, today’s communion text). It’s the covenant of the gospel—internal, whole heart change (love!) that reconciles us to God and gives us a beautiful new community each of whom know God as intimately as we do.
If all you’ve ever experienced of Christianity is law or ritual, maybe it’s time to know love? God will write it on your heart. He’ll give you compassion and affection and joy. All because of Jesus.
