There was a miraculous explosion of conversions among Gentiles in Antioch. But what was to be done with all these new converts to Jesus? What was next for them? Barnabas, filled with the Holy Spirit and faith, urges these new disciples to remain true to the Lord with devoted hearts. He wanted them to have a single-minded devotion to Jesus as their Lord. And so Barnabas and Saul invested in these new believers and spent an entire year teaching them.
The result of all this? These disciples started giving selflessly like Jesus. They determined themselves to give money to the church in Jerusalem as relief from a famine – a famine that hadn’t even happened yet. They didn’t give in response to a need; they gave their money in anticipation of a need – for a church far away that was suspicious of God’s work among them to begin with. These disciples’ capacity to give selflessly like Jesus was as miraculous as their original conversion to Him.
